The Western Australian and wider racing community has united to mourn the passing of a true gentleman of the sport, Colin Webster.
Widely respected for his outstanding horsemanship, Colin was equally admired for his kindness, humility and generosity. He was regarded as one of WA’s finest tutors of apprentice jockeys, mentoring generations of riders and leaving a lasting imprint on the industry through an impressive list of alumni.
Among them was Troy Turner, who began his career as an apprentice under Webster. In a heartfelt tribute, Turner said:
“Colin’s legacy lives on in the horses he prepared, the apprentice jockeys he mentored, and the special memories we were lucky enough to share with him. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.”
One of the most defining moments of Colin’s career came in 2022, when Turner partnered Trix Of The Trade to victory in the Railway Stakes, securing an inaugural Group 1 success for the man he called ‘Boss’. The emotional scenes that unfolded in the Mounting Yard post-race captured what Colin meant to the community and remain a treasured memory for those who witnessed it.
The Webster family warmly invite all who knew Colin, or who wish to pay their respects, to attend his funeral service.
