Perth Racing’s Fashions on the Field celebrates individual style, creativity and confidence through a contemporary expression of racewear.
Inspired by Western Australia’s climate, lifestyle and creative spirit, the competition welcomes entrants of all backgrounds and personal styles.
We welcome bold interpretations, emerging trends and unique personalities. There is no single definition of racewear in WA, from classic elegance to contemporary expression, we celebrate looks that are thoughtfully curated, seasonal, confident and appropriate for a day at the races.

Style and Originality
We celebrate individuality, whether classic and refined, understated, fashion-forward or unexpected. Entrants are encouraged to express their personality through considered outfit choices while presenting a polished and original interpretation of racewear.
Interpretation of Racewear
Outfits should be appropriate for a daytime race-day event. Perth Racing welcomes contemporary racewear alongside traditional silhouettes, provided the overall look is polished, cohesive, seasonal and suitable for the occasion and setting.
Millinery and Headwear
In keeping with racing tradition, headwear is required. This may include hats, fascinators, sculptural headpieces, floral designs and contemporary millinery interpretations. Headwear should complement and enhance the overall look.
Attention to Detail
Does the outfit work as a complete look? Accessories, shoes, jewellery, bags and grooming all contribute to the overall impression. A well-executed head-to-toe look should feel intentional, cohesive and harmonious.
Grooming and Deportment
Hair, makeup and overall presentation should complement the outfit. Confidence, presence and the way an entrant presents their look will contribute to the judges’ overall impression.

Fashions on the Field guidelines
Entrants must pre-register online and collect their paddle from the registration desk by 12pm on raceday.
The competition welcomes entrants of all genders and cultural backgrounds but must be over 18 years.
Outfits must not feature prominent branding, logos or promotional or political messaging.
Entrants must be available for all nominated judging and presentation times and remain on course until the winner has been announced and prizes have been presented.
Winners must be available following the presentation for official photography and reasonable media opportunities, including interviews about their outfit, styling inspiration and raceday experience.
If a winner is not present to accept their prize, Perth Racing reserves the right to award the prize to another eligible entrant.
The judging panel operates independently of Perth Racing. All judging decisions are made solely by the appointed judges on the day and in accordance with the published judging criteria. The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding judging outcomes.
The overall winner of both the male and female category of the immediately preceding Perth Racing Fashions on the Field competition is ineligible to enter the following competition.
